In this post i'll write about the one of term in data communication technology :) that is GPRS, EDGE (2G), UMTS (3G), HSPA HSDPA, HSUPA, EVDO, okay that was the term that we always see and maybe all of you only know few things about it. First :
1. GPRS
(General Packet Radio Service): GPRS is often referred to as 2G technologies. Facilities provided by GPRS: e-mail, MMS (picture messages), browse the internet ... access speeds between 56kbps to 115kbps. Which is the slowest.
2. EDGE
EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) / 2.5G: EDGE the same facilities available such as GPRS (e-mail, MMS, and browsing). Access speeds approximately 384kbps (3x speed GPRS). This mayan is much faster than GPRS.
3. UMTS
(Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service): In addition to providing Internet access facility (e-mail, MMS, and browsing), UMTS also provides video streaming, video conferencing, and video calling ... 480kbps.
4. HSPA, HSDPA, HSUPA
HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) is the parent of HSDPA and HSUPA. HSPA is the result of the first wave of 3G technology development, Release 99 (R99). So HSPA is able to work much faster when compared with R99 connection.
HSDPA stands for High Speed Downlink Packet Access Pebedaan between UMTS with HSDPA is the speed that can be achieved. If 3G, meaning that supports speed UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) that can only be a maximum of 384kbps. While HSDPA theoretically can reach 3.6Mbps (nearly 10 times the maximum speed UMTS), HSDPA is often referred to 3.5 G (three and a half G technology) to distinguish from the previous 3G standard.
HSDPA technology allows the streaming video service, fast Internet access, and video conferencing. HSDPA is an enhancement of W-CDMA network that already exists. For information, W-CDMA is the name of the GSM technology that allows for 3G technology. HSDPA purposes, no other, is to increase the maximum data transfer speed, service quality, and efficiency.
HSUPA stands for High Speed Uplink Packet Access, the ability to upload data from your computer / laptop users to the Internet. Example: speed UPLOAD images to facebook, blogs and so on.
5. EVDO stands for Evolution Data Optimized network of technology from CDMA.
Currently in Indonesia, divided into two namely EVDO Rev O and Rev A. CDMA EVDO technology is believed to have speed and competitive rates with GSM 3G HSDPA
A little explanation about the level of the CDMA network connection speed:
- CDMA 1X technology has a maximum download speed of 153 Kbps
- Technology EVDO Rev. O maximum download speed of 2.4 Mbps
- EVDO Rev A technology has a maximum download speed of 3.1 Mbps
For quality and speed of Internet access which one is better than technology on top? The answer is RELATIVE. Since it is very dependent on:
- Density of users in our area. To factor this one if EVDO user in an area are overloaded it causing disruption and even the connection is lost.
- Catch signal in our place, and this depends on the existing base stations in our environment. Our location (whether blocked buildings, trees etc.)
- And factors of the operator's own

ReplyDeletethankx,it was brief and clear ;)
ReplyDeletehey thank you very much...
ReplyDeletebut the nly diff b/w 2G & 3G is SPEED(download/upload) nly ?
Thank you for evolution of number of unknown thing.
ReplyDeletethank you
ReplyDeleteIt's very useful for fast net surfing. Thanks for sharing such types of infos.
